Making your magazine
I'm not a designer. Will it actually look good?
Yes, because you never start from a blank page. Every template comes with a cover, sections and frames already in place. Add your photos, we arrange them in the order they were taken, and both your names land on the cover. Tweak whatever you like, and a real person checks it before it prints.
How many photos do I need?
About 30 photos for 20 pages, 35 to 50 for 24 pages and 60 to 90 for 48 pages. A few sharp photos beat lots of blurry ones, since the magazine prints them big. You can also add pages in the editor and only pay the difference.
Are phone photos good enough?
Yes. Photos from any recent phone print great at magazine size. Just skip screenshots and pictures saved from messaging apps, which are usually compressed. Use the original. The editor warns you if a photo might print blurry.
Can we make it together?
Yes. Sign in with the same email on two devices. Your magazine saves online, so you can each work on it. Just avoid editing the same page at the same moment.
It's a surprise. How do I keep it secret?
Make it on your own phone or computer and ship it to yourself or a friend. Emails only go to you.
Can I change it after I send it?
No. Once you send it, it goes to review and then to print. That's why we show you a full preview and ask you to double-check the names. If we spot an issue during review, we'll unlock it for you.
The magazine
How is a magazine different from a photo book?
The layout and the feel. A photo book sets your pictures inside white margins on a hard cover. A magazine runs them full page, with headlines, sections and captions, on a soft cover you actually want to pick up. You flip through it, pass it around, leave it on the coffee table.
What's the paper like?
Stapled magazines are printed on 130 gsm coated paper with a sturdier 250 gsm cover; perfect-bound ones on 170 gsm with a 200 gsm cover. It feels substantial in your hands and the photos don't show through from one page to the next.
Stapled or perfect-bound: what's the difference?
Stapled (saddle-stitched) is how newsstand magazines are bound: two staples in the fold, and it opens nice and flat. It comes in 20 to 48 pages, in steps of 4. Perfect binding gives you a flat, glued spine, like a special edition: 24 to 48 pages, in steps of 2. Same price for the same page count, so pick the one you like.
Will the paper yellow over time?
The paper is made for photo printing and holds up well as long as it's kept out of direct sun and damp, like any good magazine.
Can I add pages after I pay?
Yes. In the editor you add pages in one click and only pay the price difference between the two page counts.
Can I order more than one copy?
Yes, when you buy or right before it prints. Each extra copy costs much less than the first, a little less with each one you add, and they all ship in the same box. Handy for one each, or one for the parents.
Payment and credit
Why do I pay before I make it?
So you're never rushed. Your credit waits for you for 60 days: no expiring cart, no timer. Make it on a free evening, alone or together, and come back as often as you like. Need more time? We extend it, no questions asked, by 30, 60 or 90 days, in one click or by replying to our email.
What if I change my mind after paying?
As long as you haven't sent your magazine to print, you can ask for a refund on your credit within 14 days of purchase. Once it's sent, it's made just for you and can't be refunded unless there's a defect.
Can I gift a magazine and let them make it?
Yes. Buy a credit and send the creation link to whoever you like. They pick a template, add their photos and get it delivered.
Shipping and returns
How long until it arrives?
Once you send it to print, allow 6 to 12 business days: a quick review, a few days to print, then tracked shipping. How long you take to make it is up to you. Have a date in mind? Send it at least two weeks ahead.
Where do you ship?
The US, France and Belgium, with free tracked shipping. More countries later.
What if it arrives damaged or misprinted?
Send us a photo within 14 days of delivery, by replying to your delivery email or through the contact page. We'll reprint it at no cost, no questions asked.
The matching tee
How is the tee made?
We take your magazine's cover photo and both your names and lay them out in one of our designs. You pick a color (white, black, natural) and a size, check the preview, and it's printed to order on a 100% cotton Bella+Canvas 3010 with a relaxed, boxy fit.
Why does the tee ship separately?
Magazines are made at a print shop, tees at a garment workshop. Each does what it does best, so they ship from two places. You'll get two packages and two tracking numbers. Tee delivery: 5 to 9 business days.
I picked the wrong tee size. What now?
Since it's printed just for you, we can't swap it for another size, so please check the size guide before ordering. If there's a print defect or we made a mistake, we'll remake it for free.
